What fun it was to catch up with some of our Deni Uke Muster mates last Tuesday; and to meet some new friends who travelled from Hay to join us. The Wild Women of Anywhere Beach, aka Cathy (Fast Fingers) Welsford and Angie (Random Chords) Smith kept us well entertained with their workshop and mini concert. There were also delicious food and a few drinks to sustain us during the intermission, which allowed us to catch up whilst Cathy and Angie set the scene, as pictured below, for their performance. Just how much more could we have packed into 2 hours on a school night!
The Queen workshop had us strumming and singing along to classics like We Will Rock You, You're My Best Friend, Bohemian Rhapsody and more (but thankfully not Fat Bottomed Girls, which is a little too close to home for this attendee, even if we do make the rocking world go round!). There was a little bit of finger picking for those who felt like having a go and we even managed to fit in an original blues number, written by Cathy and Angie - Seaside Blues. The content was perfectly pitched (musical pun intended) at those with intermediate, but somewhat rusty, ukulele skills.
The mini concert had us entertained with more originals by Cathy and Angie, one of which introduced us to the harp ukulele. Poetry, humour and real lyrics from the heart delivered by real people. We finished the night with our ukuleles and voices belting out the Four Non Blondes classic "What's Up". Thank you to all involved.

We are so excited to announce that the Wild Women of Anywhere Beach are coming to Deniliquin on Tuesday 5th April 2022. Cathy and Angie will be conducting a workshop and then putting on a concert, so put this date straight into your diaries, highlight it and underline it too! It will be a great opportunity to dust off those ukes and get together with your uke mates for a long overdue catch up. We hope to see you there.
It will probably come as no surprise, but this is our official release regarding the cancellation of this year's Deni Uke Muster Festival. We remain optimistic that there is a future for us next year and can't wait to catch up with all our old and new friends then. If, like me, your playing is a bit rusty, your fingers have softened up and your nails have grown long, there'll be plenty of time to brush up on your skills...but don't leave it too long! On the other hand, if you have been taking advantage of stay at home rules to hone your uke skills, we will look forward to hearing you in due course. In the meantime, stay well, take care of those you call your own and keep good company.
Hello everybody. If you were lucky enough to have attended any of Cathy's workshops at the Deni Uke Muster I'm sure you'll be very keen to hear about these two events - "Expand Your Chord Library" and the "October Uke Challenge". They sound like great ways to increase your skills in the Covid safe environment of your own home. Cathy says you will cover much more than just the James Hill material, which is the starting point in this series of workshops. Please share this information with your own groups or anyone else you feel might be interested.
It is with profound regret that we have reached the decision to cancel the Deni Uke Muster Festival this year. We're sure that you have heard words like unprecedented circumstances and uncertain times all too often, but this is the reality of our situation. The amount of volunteer time and effort required to set festival preparations in motion is considerable in the months leading up to the opening of ticket sales in September. This year we cannot plan effectively because we cannot know what the safe distancing requirements will be in November, nor whether the spaces available to us for workshops, performances and meals will support the numbers we need to make the festival viable.
Despite our disappointment, we remain enthusiastic about bringing you a fabulous festival next year. We have some terrific presenters who have been asked to put us in their diaries for 2021 (but we can't tell you who just yet). In the meantime, stay well and keep a-strumming and a-picking :).
We are pleased to announce this first step on the road to our festival becoming more environmentally friendly. Thank you to those who requested this in their festival feedback and especially to the committee members who have taken on this project with determination and enthusiasm.
This year we are replacing single-use plastics and instead serving meals with cardboard or reusable plates and cutlery. You are welcome to bring your own reusable plates and cutlery for the Friday night dinner and Saturday and Sunday lunches and we will have volunteers on hand to wash and return them. We will also be providing dedicated return/recycle bins for disposal of single-use drink containers.
Registrations are now open for our 2019 Festival and it's going to be another fabulous one! Registrations close on 1 November or earlier if sold out. Workshop numbers are limited so register early to ensure you get your first pick.
